Lewoleba, East Nusa Tenggara, 29 June 2020 – To support the government’s efforts in combatting the spread of COVID-19, Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) provides personal protective equipment (PPE/APD) for health and medical workers at the end of June (6/29) in Lembata District, East Nusa Tenggara.
Plan Indonesia, with support from public donation, provides emergency assistance to five public health facilities (Puskesmas) in Lembata District. These contributions are in form of 125 pieces of hazmat clothes, 125 pieces of face shield, 150 pieces of N95-mask, 50 boxes of surgical mask, 125 goggle glasses, 25 pairs of boots, 100 boxes of NS hand gloves, 300 boxes of sterile hand gloves, 55 pairs of long hand gloves, 100 nurses cup or head covers.
“Plan Indonesia’s contributions in providing personal protective equipment is part of our direct support to health and medical workers. So that they could protect themselves while carrying out their valuable duties, especially those with direct contacts to patients who are indicated to be exposed to COVID-19,” said Erlina Dangu, Program Implementation Area Manager Plan Indonesia in Lembata District.
Erlina said that this distribution work is a continuation of Plan Indonesia’s emergency response program during the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously in April and May 2020, Plan Indonesia has provided direct assistance to the community targeting children and their families living in remote areas. The emergency assistance contributed among others are thousands of personal hygiene packages for rural communities, clean water supplies, menstrual hygiene packages for girls and thousands of school packages for sponsored children in Lembata District. This time, the contribution of personal protective equipment aimed to support health and medical workers in providing services to the community at Puskesmas. To date, more than 400,000 children and adults have been recorded as direct beneficiaries of Plan Indonesia’s emergency response in the form of clean water supply and hygiene kits, hygiene promotion activities, child protection, and ensuring access to education for children in remote areas. Plan Indonesia has performed COVID-19 emergency responses in East Nusa Tenggara in the districts of South Central Timor, Nagekeo, Lembata, Belu, Malaka, Manggarai, West Nusa Tenggara in West Lombok, North Lombok and Mataram, Sumbawa, DKI Jakarta in 18 villages and Central Java.
