Lembata, July, 13 2020 – Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) has been donating thousands of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) kits and school kits to children and students starting from Monday (13/7) for a month long in Lembata district, East Nusa Tenggara.
The packages of MHM Kits are to be distributed to 4.059 children aged 10-18 years old, as well as 4.406 packages of school kits for students.
The distribution of MHM Kits and School Kits is held in 79 villages of Plan Indonesia in Omesuri, Buyasuri Ile Ape, Ile Ape Timur and Lebatukan sub-districts to support the government’s efforts in preventing COVID-19 pandemic.
During the distribution, Plan Indonesia was assisted by the volunteers of Forum Penanggulangan Resiko Bencana (Disaster Risk Management Forum) and volunteers from Plan Indonesia in Lembata.
“Distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Management Kits is intended to share knowledge and information about menstruation for the children (beneficiaries), especially girls, and to be well-and-correctly used when they are in their period,” said Erlina Dangu, Program Implementation Area Manager Plan Indonesia in Lembata.
Erlina added that the distribution of MHM Kits and school kits was aimed to support students and teacher in five assisted regions to continue their learning process during COVID-19 pandemic.
This distribution is the next phase of Plan Indonesia emergency response during COVID-19 pandemic. In April until June 2020, Plan Indonesia has been giving support to the communities and directly targeting children and their families who live in assisted areas. The assistance that has been given are the package of personal hygiene kits and clean water.
More than 400.000 children and adults have received the direct benefits from the emergency response program of Plan Indonesia including provision of clean water and hygiene kits, promotion of hygienic activities, children protection, and education access for children in remote areas.
Areas of Plan Indonesia COVID-19 emergency responses are East Nusa Tenggara (in South Central Timor, Nagekeo, Lembata, Belu, Malaka, and Manggarai districts), West Nusa Tenggara (in Lombok Barat, Lombok Utara, Mataram, and Sumbawa), Jakarta (in 18 villages) and Central Java. (***)
