Throughout the 2021 fiscal year, Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) worked consistently to ensure equality for girls through the implementation of various initiatives. With the COVID-19 pandemic that has still hit the world, we adapted the implementation of our programs throughout the 2021 fiscal year in order to help children and young people who were experiencing various health, social and economic impacts as a direct result of the pandemic. Moreover, we have been partnering with several civil society organizations and businesses to provide access to fundamental rights for children, including access to education, water and sanitation.
Subsequently, in line with a decline in the number of positive COVID-19 cases and a resurgence of economic activity during 2021, we started to encourage various initiatives aimed at empowering young people so that they will be able to adapt to the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through these efforts, we have succeeded in reaching more than 552,088 individuals and have been encouraging the government to protect children during the COVID-19 period.
In addition, through four main programs that reached over 200,000 children and young people, we have also strengthened and encouraged the realization of gender equality through the #GirlsGetEqual campaign, which is aiming to help 1 million girls across Indonesia gain access to equal opportunities and to be free to form opinions and make decisions that will affect their lives, as well as to be empowered to pursue their dreams and become leaders.
